Founders' Resilience Index - February 2020 - Detailed Report

February 13, 2020

On February 3, 2020, we decided to share a survey to measure the Founders' Resilience and the impact of the Coronavirus Crisis on their business in China. That date was chosen to see how they were feeling about the situation right before the tentative day imposed by the government to go back to work. However, employees were not allowed to go to the office and it was asked that they stay at home on “paid holidays” or if necessary they could be working remotely (compensation raised a few eyebrows since this work has to be considered as “extra work”).

On February 10, companies were allowed to get back to normal. However due to the outbreak, many managers decided to keep their team working remotely, several office buildings, retail spaces or restaurants were not allowed to open normally, and some office space were limiting access to a maximum of 12 people at any given time for example.

All those rules are necessary to contain the virus and eradicate it as soon as possible, and the Chinese Government have been taking unprecedented measures that have been proven efficient since the numbers of cases known seems to be going down for over 7 days in a row now at least outside of Hubei Province (we are writing this article on Feb 13, 2020).

On February 10, 2020, we published the first infographics to show the results of our survey. 179 companies all across China took the time to give their feedback (info also collected thanks to the support of StartupCare.com.hk).

To go beyond and give some legs to our reports we wanted to give more details.

How many founders took the survey: 179

How many nationalities are represented: 24

(with 127 for France, 11 USA, 4 China, 4 Canada, 4 for Italy, 3 for Spain, then Luxembourg, Mexico, Senegal, Ukraine, Denmark, UK, Sweden, Russia, Singapore,...).

And here is a bit more about the founders, their company, their teams and how they have been adapting to the situation.

In the following part, we are focussing more on how founders are looking at the situation, how they believe this will turn out and what are they learning from it.

Of course, we have selected the most interesting "tips" that a founder could give to another founder for you to get prepared in case of a future crisis...

We hope you find this survey useful and positive !
