[OPENING] KIN Urban Thai Kitchen is now (softly) open!

The whole team is welcoming you on 45 YongKang Road, Shanghai

· Urban Food Group

As an early investor and board member in the Urban Thai Group, NextStep Studio is very proud to announce the opening of our 3rd location, with a new concept: KIN Urban Thai Kitchen.

Congrats to the whole team and we are looking forward to the next steps!!

Truly Thai in both vibrancy of flavor and warmth of hospitality, KIN Urban Thai Kitchen is a homestyle Thai kitchen with a Northern accent.

The concept came about through a partnership between Camel Hospitality Group (The Bull & Claw, El Luchador, D.O.C, etc.), Camden Hauge (Egg, Bird, Bitter), and Urban Thai group, drawing on all members’ strengths to revitalize the Urban Thai concept.

After spending time in Northern Thailand, several members of the group fell for the unique tastes and spirit of the region and wanted to bring them back to Shanghai. KIN will mindfully convey these vivid flavors as well as the humor and hospitality we experienced on our travels.

The meaning of “kin” across its translation from Thai (most simply, “eat” / “to eat”) as well as its allusion in English (‘family’, either by blood or mentality) evokes the centrality of food to a Thai community and the way that people are brought together through meals.

KIN is offering a great selection of northern thai dishes easy to share

Our aim is to make delicious dishes that riff on our favorite Northern Thai staples alongside the pan-Thai classics we know and love, simply presented but electric in flavor – hot, salty, sour, funky, herbaceous – and perfect to share with friends and family.

Bringing Thailand street food in the heart of the Former French Concession in Shanghai, China

The food will also be an excellent counterpart for drinks, whether a fresh coconut, barrel-glassed Thai iced tea, an equally frosty beer, or easy but inspired cocktails. Though less traditional, here wine pairings are also a focus, whether a crisp-mineral Wachau Grüner Veltliner or an earthy orange Sicilian Zibibbo to hold up to the excitement of Thai flavors.

The first location soft opens on Monday 18 November – the brand will then roll out into two other central locations on Dagu Lu and Changle Lu.
